The Do's and Don'ts of Showing School Spirit

High school is a time for self-expression. One of the best ways to express yourself is through school spirit. Many people actually like their high school; maybe not the studious part but definitely the social part. When someone says something bad about your school you try to defend it, right? Well many people like to show the other schools that theirs is superior by showing off their school spirit; like at sporting events and such. A lot of girls go all out for sporting events, and this is a list of the dos and don’ts of showing off school spirit.

            One of the best ways to show school spirit is to go all out. If your school makes a certain event a white out, meaning you wear all white, then don’t be that one person that wears a black shirt or any other color that’s not close to white. If you’re feeling artistic, you can even add in some body paint or sparkles, which adds a little something extra. You want to show the opposing team that your school is going to come together as one and beat them. However it’s not always a white out. Your school will most likely switch it up a bit; like adding in school colors so make sure you know the theme before going to the game.

            Another way to show school spirit is through cheers. Most sports have cheer leaders for a reason. They’re there to get the crowd pumped up to win. Not just to look cute and do cool stunts. Plus the louder the fans, the better the team tends to play. If you are a cheer leader, be proud of that. Yes, a lot of guys think you’re dumb and ditzy blondes, but that doesn’t have to define who you are. Prove them wrong.

            Wearing t-shirts with the school’s logo or anything having to do with the school is a sure way for people to know what school you represent. You don’t have to wear them just at sporting events either. Numerous people around town will easily recognize what school you go to, just by what you’re wearing. Many high school clubs and sports teams raise money for their cause by selling t-shirts advertising what they’re doing. For example, volleyball players have the opportunity to buy t-shirts and hoodies with their name on the back, along with the school’s logo on the front. They offer fan shirts for the parents as well; so they can support their kids and their school.

            You would think its common sense, however some people don’t know how NOT to show school spirit. Getting drunk or high to act “cool” during a sporting event or even at school is not a good way to represent your school. So just keep that in mind, because even when you don’t think people are watching, they really are.

Top Ten Chick Flicks

Not all girls love chick flicks, although there are several movies every girl should see at least once. They’re not all romantic comedies either; you know the ones where the plot line is the same in every movie. Romantic movies however are how girls become girly girls. We see these two people fall in love on the screen and we wish for that. We want a guy to come along and sweep us off our feet. Guys say they hate romantic kind of movies, but what they don’t know is that you can learn a lot about a girl just by watching chick flicks. Here are the top ten chick flicks every girl should watch.

            Mean Girls. This movie came out in 2004 and it’s about a new female student and her struggle with popularity in high school. Many people may think this movie is stupid or sets a bad example for girls, but the actual moral of the story is that yes girls can be nasty, but at the end of the day popularity doesn’t matter.

Titanic. This movie was made in 1997 and it tells the tale of two people who fall in love while aboard the Titanic. This is a classic romance movie. There’s love, passion, disasters, sacrifice. Everything a girl will eventually face in life. It’s good for girls to believe that you can still love someone even if they have passed and you’ve moved on with your life.

Legally Blonde. This movie was made in 2001 and it’s about a girl, whom society perceives to be dumb by the color of her hair, and her journey from dumb blonde to studious lawyer. Girls should not be discriminated against just because of the color of their hair. This movie also teaches girls that society doesn’t define who you are. You do.

13 Going on Thirty. This movie was made in 2004 and it’s about a girl who wishes to be thirty on her thirteenth birthday; which she soon comes to realize that being thirty isn’t as glamorous as she thought it would be. Girls now a days just want to grow up and don’t realize that the real world isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Miss Congeniality was released in 2000 and it’s about a cop who has to go undercover as a girl in the Miss United States Beauty Pageant. This movie illustrates the fact that even though you look pretty on the outside, it’s what is on the inside that truly matters.

Sisterhood of the traveling pants. It came out in 2005 and it tells the story of a magical pair of pants and its adventures with four best friends. This movie portrays sisterhood and friendship. It shows the deep bonds between girls and what they can overcome when they stick together.

Love Actually. This movie was released in 2003 and it’s about the love lives of ten different individuals and how all of their lives intertwine. A very large amount of girls in this world believe that true love doesn't exist. Well this movie proves that wrong. Yes it may just be a movie, however it gives young girls a chance to believe in true love.

Dirty Dancing. Released in 1987 and considered another love story classic because of the passion and love between the two main characters. It’s about a young and naïve girl who gets exposed to dirty dancing while on vacation with her family. Girls don’t need to grow up in a hurry, however they can’t stay little forever. Dirty Dancing is a great example of how girls can mature and grow into strong and successful women.

What a Girl Wants. This movie was made in 2003 and tells the story of a teenage girl looking for her father and trying to be a part of his life. In the movie, the father’s life style doesn’t match his daughters and he asks her to change. In the end she tells him she can’t be a part of his life until he accepts her for her. Young girls need to know that it’s not ok to change for anyone; not even your dad.

            She’s the Man. This movie was released in 2006 and is about a girl who pretends to be a guy to prove that girls are just as good as guys when it comes to sports. Girls need to learn to stand up for themselves and to not let people, especially guys, push them around just because of their sex. Girls are just as good as guys and this movie surely proves that.

How To Ask a Girl To Homecoming or Prom

Asking a girl to homecoming or prom can be very nerve racking. To most guys, girls seem hard to approach, but we’re really not. In today’s society, people make a big deal about asking a girl to the dance; especially with all these creative ideas floating around on the internet and Pinterest. Most girls like that creative and cutesy kind of thing. It shows the girl that the guy cares enough to take the time to think it through and figure out what to do, instead of just coming right out and asking. Here are just a few ideas that’ll make her yes for sure.
If you or the girl you plan to ask are into football, this one’s definitely for you. Paint a football her favorite color, this part is totally optional, and bedazzle the words “Homecoming” or “Prom” on the football. Feel free to add sparkles or any other creative thing you can think of. You know the girl better than anyone else. Make it to her style. You can also add a cute and puny saying; such as “Wanna tackle Homecoming together?”
Flowers always make girls smile. Send her a rose with each letter of the certain type of dance you’re asking her to. If you’re asking her to homecoming you’ll have eleven roses or five if you’re asking her to prom. Have a different person give her each flower; however make sure you’re the question mark, otherwise she won’t know it’s you.
Girls love food. Even if they say they don’t because of calories, they’ll still eat it anyways. You could spell it out on a cake or cupcake. Asking a girl to prom in a giant cookie is a sure way for her to say yes as well. If you take her to a restaurant, talk to the waiter or chef ahead of time and have him write the word “Prom” in chocolate syrup or frosting, depending on the dessert. Or if she’s really into seafood, have the chef arrange the sushi in the form of the word “Prom.” If your girlfriend is the typical high school girl, she probably loves Starbucks. Buy her favorite drink and have them write the words “Prom” or “Homecoming” where her name would usually go.
A very common way to ask a girl to a dance is through t-shirts. Have a couple of your friends wear t-shirts spelling out the words and just make sure you’re the question mark. It also wouldn’t hurt to have a bouquet of flowers either. If you don’t want to buy all those t-shirts, another option would be to use body paint to spell it out as well. Or even huge paper signs. All of these will work to get her to say yes.
As long as you make her feel like a million bucks, she will more than likely say yes. Asking her in public wouldn't hurt either because then it’ll be harder for her to say no.
